Gilas Pilipinas 15-Man Pool For 2019 SEA Games

Newly installed head coach for Gilas Pilipinas, coach Tim Cone named the players who are included in the 15-man pool.

Almost half of the players are coming from coach Cone’s squad in the PBA, the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. These are LA Tenorio, Scottie Thompson, Stanley Pringle, Arthur Dela Cruz, Japeth Aguilar, and Greg Slaughter.

To boost his Gin Kings core, the grand slam winner coach also tapped the services of Chris Ross, Christian Standhardinger, June Mar Fajardo and Marcio Lassiter coming from their sister-team, the San Miguel Beermen.

Likewise, Gilas veterans from TNT KaTropa were also part of the pool. Jayson Castro Williams will suit up once again for Gilas after he sat out during the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Along with Castro are RR Pogoy and Troy Rosario.

Alaska’s Vic Manuel also got listed along with Phoenix’s Matthew Wright.

Coach Cone followed the model of the 1994 version of the Philippine team that saw action in Asian Games.

The San Miguel Beermen core was given the task to represent the country and to boost its lineup, several superstars from the league were added.

“That’s kind of the model we’re working on and I don’t have time to teach everybody. If I have a core group that already understands what we’d like to do in terms of system offensively and defensively then those players will help me coach the other players who will be added on,” said Cone.
