Here is the schedule of the Gilas Pilipinas for the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup which will be held in China.
The first assignment for the Team Philippines is the Italian squad led by Marco Belinelli (San Antonio Spurs) and Danilo Gallinari (Oklahoma City Thunder).
Having those two NBA players in their roster made them one of the tough teams in Group D. Yet, during their campaign in the four-team Acropolis International Basketball Tournament, the Italian squad went win-less.
Next on the list for Gilas is the mighty team Serbia which is currently ranked at number 4 in the world.
The Serbian basketball squad has five NBA players in their roster. Bogdan Bogdanović (Sacramento Kings), Nemanja Bjelica (Sacramento Kings), Nikola Jokić (Denver Nuggets), Marko Gudurić (Memphis Grizzlies), and Boban Marjanović (Philadelphia 76ers) are expected to carry their team.
Probably one of the highlights in this duel is how June Mar Fajardo and the entire Gilas fleet will handle the 7-foot-3 Marjanović.
Last on Gilas preliminary round schedule is versus the team Angola. Many have predicted that there’ll be a good chance to make a win for team Philippines considering how they are ranked in FIBA.
Team Philippines is at number 31 while Team Angola is at number 39 plus they have no NBA player in their roster.
Still, just like what everyone says especially who is a fan of basketball, “bilog ang bola” meaning, anything can happen.
