The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Blackwater Elite at 7:00 P.M. on January 12, 2018 live from the Mall of Asia Arena.
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is looking to extend its winning streak to three and dominate the 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup standings but the surprising Elite will try to slow them down when PBA games resumes this evening.
The famous “Never-Say-Die”mantra since the Jaworski days in the PBA continue and was evident last Sunday when Ginebra battled the Terrence Romeo-less GlobalPort Batang Pier.
LA Tenorio sparked the fourth quarter for Ginebra with his back-to-back three-pointers then Japeth Aguilar completed the surging comeback with his thunderous ally-oop dunk.
However, despite of the win coach Tim Cone wasn’t pleased of the performance of his troops and felt disturbed.
“That’s what teams coming from a championship do. They sleepwalk through the first three quarters, just turn on and try to win down the stretch. They feel they can just show up and win. They don’t really play until they really have to,” Cone pointed out.
“I’m disturbed. I think we can do away with that. This is something we have to get better at. We have to fire away right away,” Cone also said.
On that last outing of Barangay Ginebra, LA Tenorio earned another milestone to his already sterling PBA career. He surpassed former Sta. Lucia point guard Gerald Esplana as the 15th All-Time Assist Leader.
Mac Belo was playing great in his rookie season but was sidelined during the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup and 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup due to an injury. This season, the product of Far Eastern University looks like he already picked up what he was doing last 2016-17 PBA Philippine Cup.
Apart from Belo, Blackwater Elite guard Michael DiGregorio continue his stellar performance this All-Filipino conference after being one of the improved player last season.
Both Belo and DiGregorio led the Blackwater surging run in the final quarter against Rain or Shine and were able to steal the game.
“I don’t know the stats, but it’s real good to win doing that together. Big thing really was we did it together,” said DiGregorio then. “We have lots of young guys who are hungry and eager to prove themselves. That keeps them in the gym. We’ll get more wins in this conference,” he added.
