The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the GlobalPort Batang Pier at 6:45 P.M. on January 8, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Barangay Ginebra wanted to repeat what they have started last 2017 Christmas day against Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok while the Batang Pier are looking to avoid a two-game losing skid when PBA games resumes this evening.
The man who is also known the “GregZilla” was really a monster inside the paint against the Hotshots. Greg Slaughter silently piled his scoring and rebounding stats and ended up with 24 markers and 13 boards.
The “Never-Say-Die” team will be entering the game without the services of Joe Devance, Sol Mercado and Art dela Cruz Jr. who are currently nursing their respective injuries.
“We’re still missing key guys in Joe (Devance), Sol (Mercado) and Art (dela Cruz) but we have prepared to play without them and feel good about the way we have practiced through the break,” said Cone.
With the absence of their key players, Slaughter, Aguilar, Thompson, Tenorio needs to do some overtime in order to take over the slack.
Likewise, Ginebra fans are still waiting for the PBA debut of Jett Manuel who was called to enter the game with only few seconds in the second quarter of Ginebra vs Magnolia but wasn’t able to make it as game referrees resumed the game before he reached the table officials.
Just like Ginebra, GlobalPort will continue to miss the scoring presence of Terrence Romeo who is still out due to an injury. Coach Pido Jarencio will turn once again to another high-octane guard Stanley Pringle to do the heavy scoring.
Pringle was sharp in Batang Pier’s recent outing against the NLEX Road Warriors where he had a double-double performance. He scored 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a losing effort.
“Global has always been a tough matchup for us because of their quickness. We’ll need to do a good job of containing them,” said Cone.
