The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the GlobalPort BatangPier at 7:00 P.M. on June 6, 2017 in Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings is looking to extend its winning streak in the quarterfinals round and make it five wins in a row while the Batang Pier wanted to extend their season this 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Barangay Ginebra is in different side of the coin compared to their standings last 2017 PBA Philippine Cup.
Currently, the “Never-Say-Die” team is at the top of the standings and posses the twice-to-beat advantage.
However, coach Tim Cone is fully aware that having that advantage still not an assurance to move to the semi-finals round.
Last conference, Barangay Ginebra was able to dispose Alaska Aces which had that elusive top seed award.
“GlobalPort has the ability to make tough shots at big moments and that makes them incredibly dangerous down the stretch of games,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone.
“Justin Harper’s ability to shoot and spread the floor for (Stanley) Pringle and (Terrence) Romeo causes problems for defenses. No doubt, we’re in for a battle,” Cone added.
Terrence Romeo was the hero of the GlobalPort vs Alaska knockout game last Sunday. Romeo sank a three-pointer with few seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to topple Calvin Abueva winning shot version.
Batang Pier’s Splash Brothers (Romeo and Pringle) had a combined 47 points in that game. These two flashy players will be the assignements of LA Tenorio, Scottie Thompson and Sol Mercado for their quarterfinals series.
