The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a head-to-head Championship game against the Meralco Bolts at 7:00 P.M. on October 13, 2017 live from the Quezon Convention Center, Lucena City.

The 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup biggest stage is finally set and the two teams that battled last year will meet once again to claim this year’s championship trophy.

With Glen Rice Jr. ejected at the start of the first quarter during the Gin Kings vs TNT Game 4 semi-finals series, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel took advantage the opportunity as they took control the game in the third quarter and never looked back.

Justin Brownlee registered a career-high of 46 points in that match and it will be a good momentum for him going to their Finals showdown.

Brownlee was the Ginebra’s hero last year’s championship run after he sank a game winner three-pointer shot.

“A lot of people still talk about it but this is a new year, new conference. Whatever we did last year, it doesn’t matter in this time. I’m just trying to move forward from that. It was a great memory, nothing can take that away but I’m just moving on.” said Justin Brownlee.

On paper, it appears that the Meralco Bolts has easily dispatched the Star Hotshots in their semi-finals round. However, that wasn’t really the case as the Bolts needed an extra quarter to be officially qualified and awarded the ticket going to the championship series.

The addition of Ranidel de Ocampo to coach Norman Black’s squad was a big help. De Ocampo joined Meralco at the later stages of the elimination round via a trade that costs their 2017 first round pick.

“Getting a player of his caliber that late in the conference when you’re winning games and playing well was a big lift for us down the stretch. Obviously, it’s not over yet, but he’s a big lift for us,” said Black.

Likewise, Meralco got more help within their roster which is absent or not a big threat last year’s Governors’ Cup Finals.

This time around, they will have a healthy Jared Dillinger who is currently playing well in the playoffs. Apart from Dillinger, Meralco now have an improved Baser Amer who shifted his playing gears this 2016-17 PBA season.
