The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters at 7:00 P.M. on March 2, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
A secured playoff berth are what the Gin Kings are hoping to get after their 7 P.M. clash while the Elasto Painters wanted to keep the winning momentum as they enter the 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup Playoffs.
Rain or Shine formally entered the second round of the tournament after they have beaten the defending champions, the San Miguel Beermen last Wednesday. Coach Caloy Garcia utilized Jewel Ponferada and Beau Belga to make a three-point barrage and pulled June Mar Fajardo away from the shaded area.
As a result, the guards of the Rain or Shine were able to operate inside the post without being intimidated of the “Krakens” shot blocking abilities.
That strategy might be used again against the long arms of Japeth Aguilar, Joe Devance and Greg Slaughter.
“We’re assured of a playoff spot. But of course, we still want to win to be at No. 4,” said Garcia. “At pangit din pumasok sa playoffs na galing sa talo.”
Unlike RoS where they’re having a busy week and will be playing their third game within the nine days window, Barangay Ginebra are coming from a long 10-day break.
It was a heartbreaking loss in their last assignment against their Governors’ Cup arch-nemesis, the Meralco Bolts. That game spoiled the return of Joe Devance to the “Never-Say-Die” lineup.
Expect that Ginebra players as well as its die hard fans will be all out tonight. A win means that they will be joining the top six squads and avoid the twice-to-win handicap but if they lose then they’ll be in tie with other teams at 5-6 slate and will be matched against the top two teams where they need to win two in a row to secure a semi-final slot.
