The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a best-of-five semi-finals Game 1 against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters at 7:00 P.M. on July 15, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After their slow start in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, the Gin Kings have found their winning ways and wanted to continue its pace in the semis while the Elasto Painters are also looking to have a consistent basketball game from start to finish.
Without a doubt, Barangay Ginebra is the hottest team in the PBA at the moment considering their seven-game winning streak that started at half-way of the conference until the quarterfinals round.
However, coach Tim Cone sees the situation as both a blessing and a curse for his team.
“It’s a blessing because you got some momentum and you are playing well. A curse because at some point, you’re gonna come off the mountain,” Cone said.
Gin Kings able to dispatch the Meralco Bolts in their best-of-three series.
For the first time wearing a Rain or Shine jersey, James Yap is back in the semis. Yap who is the tormentor of Ginebra since his Purefoods days especially during this deep playoff run.
“Nasabi ko na ata to before, masarap talunin ang Ginebra dahil marami magagalit sa’yo. Basta ano lang kami, ready lang kami. For me, masayang series ‘to, I’m sure maraming tao ang masisiyahan,” added Yap.
Just in a timely fashion, Yap had a big game in their previous outing where he burned the basketball nets with his seven triples. He finished with 27 points.
“Hats off to James. It is the best game he has played for our team,” ROS head coach Caloy Garcia said.
