The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a best-of-three series against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters at 4:30 P.M. on March 7, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings are looking to close the Quarterfinals series this afternoon but the Elasto Painters will try to survive and live for another day as the All-Filipino conference playoffs resumes today.
The mastery of the Ginebra against Rain or Shine continues in their Game 1 encounter. Just like in their lone match in the eliminations round, most fans are expecting for another lengthy game.
However, Sol Mercado once again took the floor in the second as he exploded for 13 points that sparked a commanding 12-0 run.
“Game One is always crucial in a series, but definitely our job is not yet done. That team would surely not just lay down,” said Sol Mercado, a spark plug in their lethal run.
Apart from Mercado, Scottie Thompson also had a spectacular night as he teased a triple-double performance with 14 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists.
“I thought Scottie was phenomenal all day long,” gushed Cone. “He hit big shots, hit big rebounds, defended extremely well. He was shockingly good. He is always good but he was shockingly good today.”
“He kind of epitomizes what we hoped we’d be as a team, hard work and desire. He was extra special tonight.”
Thompson is one of the thorns in Elasto Painters neck and coach Caloy Garcia has advised his troops to be aggressive as Thompson.
“We have to be more physical,” stated Garcia. “Scottie has been physical on the boards and if the referees are allowing that, I told them, then we have to do the same thing. To be more physical against them.”
