The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a best-of-seven finals Game 6 against the San Miguel Beermen at 7:00 P.M. on August 8, 2018 live from the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Gin Kings are looking to end the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals tonight and take home the championship trophy while the Beermen are expected to go all-out-war to defend their crown.
Barangay Ginebra best rebounding guard Scottie Thompson prove to everyone that apart from his board cleaning skills he can also explode in scoring. He did that in Game 6 where he swished three three-pointers out of five attempts. Notably, his best performance came in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter.
“Sobrang lucky lang kasi yung defense namin talagang grind,” he said “Yung mga shoot ko sa bandang huli, I think lucky shot na lang mga yun,” Thompson added.
Ginebra coach Tim Cone wanted to close the game this evening at the Mall of Asia Arena to avoid a much formidable Beermen if the series is pushed to Game 7.
“Obviously, we don’t want to go to Game Seven with San Miguel Beer. They’re too explosive. Any given night, they can put in a hundred points,” said Cone.
For San Miguel coach Leo Austria, the chance of winning another gem is still within reach as his team still not out in contention.
“We don’t need to wait another conference to get to the finals. We’re still here, needing to win two games to defend our title, and I think we’re capable of doing it,” said Austria.
Likewise, coach Austria took his motivation on how his Beermen able to recover from a bad start of the second conference and how they have beaten the top teams of the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup during playoffs.
“It’s just two games. We’ve struggled from the start of the elims, made the playoffs and we’re able to beat TNT KaTropa and Alaska Milk. The chance is still there, and we have to go for it,” he said.
