The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the San Miguel Beermen at 6:45 P.M. on January 28, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Beermen is the only undefeated team this this 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup and looking to extend its winning streak to six while the Gin Kings are after to end their three-game losing skid.

Last year, San Miguel was so close on winning another Grand Slam but their sister team, the Gin Kings didn’t allowed them as they got eliminated in the Quarterfinals round of the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup.

That painful memory still fresh both for the players and the fans of the Beermen and tonight we might witness the might of the All-Filipino defending champion.

To make matter worse for Barangay Ginebra, it seems that Greg Slaughter will continue to sit at the sideline due to his hamstring injury.

“I don’t think it’s prudent for us to risk him not being in shape, because with the hamstring injury you can’t do any running,” said Cone. “He hasn’t run in almost two weeks or in over a week. I don’t think it’s prudent for us to make him go out there and play when he’s out shape, especially against a June Mar.”

Without the “GregZilla”, coach Tim Cone is looking for someone from his bench to step-up and those are Aljon Mariano and Kevin Ferrer.

“We haven’t responded well to being undermanned. We expected guys to step up specifically Aljon and Kevin. We wanted them to really step up but they just haven’t been capable of playing in the level that we want them to yet,” said Cone.

“They’re still young and we’re putting a lot of pressure on them. Their regular role is to be a support player but we need them to come out and be one of our dominant players. That’s obviously asking too much at this point,” Cone added.

Unlike Ginebra, coach Leo Austria instantly found a person to take over the absence of Alex Cabagnot who is also out because of injury. That guy is Brian Heruela who displayed a stellar performance in their recent outing.

Heruela joined his amateur days teammate June Mar Fajardo as the Bida Players of the Game versus GlobalPort Batang Pier.
