The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a best-of-seven semi-finals series against the San Miguel Beermen at 6:30 P.M. on March 17, 2018 live from the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Gin Kings will try to extend the series and survive another onslaught attack prepared by the Beermen and move to the 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup Finals.
Despite of having a commanding 3-1 series lead against the Barangay Ginebra, coach Leo Austria won’t let complacency sink in to their minds. He even recalled his basketball playing days with Shell and coincidentally it was also against Ginebra.
“I was a part of the Shell team that blew away a 3-1 lead against Ginebra. At humarap na kami sa 0-3 deficit, and we won it. So anything is possible. Hindi kami pwedeng mag-relax,” Austria added.
Chris Ross is one of those SMB players that took the challenge of not relaxing. Although he is having an injury, Ross still was able to suit up in Game 5 and logged 11 points with only having a playing time of 8 minutes and 45 seconds.
“Just take a look at Chris Ross. He’s not 100 percent but because he’s a warrior, he still wanted to be part of the battle. At kahit konting minute lang, he contributed (in the last game),” said Austria.
Ginebra on the other hand had difficulties on countering the zone defense employed by the Beermen. As a result the Gin commited many turnovers which the Beermen took advantage as they converted it to a big lead.
“Yun ang nangyari sa amin (sa Game 4). Pinagbayaran talaga namin pag nagkakamali kami,” added Tenorio. “We really have to focused on lahat talaga, every detail na gagawin talaga namin especially next game. We’ll be ready, we’re not going to quit right away.”
