The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the San Miguel Beermen at 6:45 P.M. on September 23, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings are looking to make a quick bounce back after absorbing its first defeat last Friday while the Beermen are looking to avenge their Game 6 loss last 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
Justin Brownlee still with Ginebra this 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup while San Miguel no longer have Renaldo Balkman but got a hardworking Arizona Reid in their roster.
Against the Columbian Dyip in the Beermen recent outing, Reid logged a triple-double output despite of absorbing an injury. Reid tallied 16 points, 17 rebounds and eleven assists.
San Miguel also tied the league’s three-pointer made record in one game. The Beermen went unconscious last Friday in the Big Dome as they converted 23 long bombs.
Arwind Santos started the pace especially in the first quarter as he got a total of 7 converted treys while Marcio Lassiter rediscoverd his shooting rhythm as he sank six three-pointers.
However, despite of that stellar offensive performance, San Miguel head coach Leo Austria is wary of his team’s defense.
“I stressed that at the half. We’re No. 1 on offense but our problem is defense. We gave away 66 points in the first half. Fortunately, our offense was superb. The turning point was when we started playing defense in the third,” said Austria.
While San Miguel had a terrific game two nights ago, Ginebra started to miss the services of their key players.
Seven players in the lineup of the Gin Kings are all in the sidelines due to their respective injuries. Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter are among the main-men of the team NSD who will miss tonight’s game.
“I never went through this in my 30 years of coaching, this many guys injured at one time,” said Cone.
Similar to their game against the Blackwater Elite, Justin Brownlee is expected to deliver more points tonight as he take take over the scoring slack left by his injured teammate.
