The Gin Kings is now in a must-win situation in order for them to extend their 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign while the KaTropa needed one more victory to advance to the Finals round.
Those are the two conflicting goals of the two protagonists when their best-of-five series resumes this evening at the SM MOA Arena.
The most popular words that describe Barangay Ginebra is most probably the phrase “Never Say Die”.
That could be the best mantra they can carry in their tonight’s match as they’re now in a thrice-to-win disadvantage.
If you ask TNT head coach Bong Ravena why they won Game 2, it’s because the Gin Kings was having an off-night performance while for them, it’s like they’re shooting the lights out of the Big Dome.
“Buti mga unang tira pumapasok, nagka-kompyansa. Kailangan namin iyon,” said Ravena. “At the same time, Ginebra siguro malas din sila. Di rin pumapasok mga outside shots nila.”
One of Ginebra players who was having that awful shooting that evening was Stanley Pringle. After he registered 18 points in their semis opener, Pringle managed only to convert one field goal out of his nine attempts.
To add more woes to his performance, “Stan the Man” also turned the ball over six times.
“We got to get our offense going, our rhythm going,” said Pringle. “We couldn’t hit shots today. Really, I got to learn to pace myself and get some more rest. We’re going to have to take it game by game. Hopefully, next game.”
For TNT consultant Mark Dickel, they’ll continue throwing the same type of strategy in Game 3. The same strategy why they ended up as the number one team after the elimination round.
“That’s our game plan, no matter who we play,” Dickel noted. “We want to spread the court, try and get lay-ups, and when they helped, kicked out, and our shooters shoot wide-open shots,” added the former Eurocup All-Star.
