The GlobalPort Batang Pier is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Kia Picanto at 4:30 P.M. on August 20, 2017 live from Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Picantos will attempt to climb up from the losing pit of the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup standings while the Batang Pier are also looking to avoid another loss and prevent a back-to-back defeats.
While Terrence Romeo still busy with the Gilas Pilipinas in Beirut helping the national squad to finish at least as the 7th best team of the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup, coach Franz Pumaren will rely on Stanley Pringle in terms of scoring.
In their 4:30 P.M. scheduled game, the player-coach relationship of Pumaren and Pringle will be tested once again.
During their last game against the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, coach Pumaren and the streaky guard Stanley Pringle were seen exchanging strong words.
“It’s just the heat of the moment. It’s just like married couples having their differences,” said Pumaren.
“But at the end of the day, it’s for the best interest of the team.”
They are once called the Mahindra Floodbuster and this conference they changed their team monicker to Kia Picanto probably to make a new start as their previous two conferences weren’t fruitful for them.
However, it appears that the losing skid and struggle to make consistent wins continues for coach Chris Gavina.
Currently, Kia is in a six-game losing skid and the winning magic that they enjoyed after they’ve traded Alex Mallari last conference is no longer in effect.
