The Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok eliminated the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in Game 7 of their semi-finals series yesterday in MOA Arena, 63-60.
Second chance points is one of the barometers of the duel of both squads and when rebounding counts in the decisive game, Magnolia’s veteran big-man stepped up his game.
Though missed a double-double performance but his 20 rebounds are enough to capture the ticket going to the championship round versus the defending champs, the San Miguel Beermen. Ten of those rebounds are grabbed in the offensive end and one of it was special during the overtime period as he also scored two points and shutdown the doors for Rain or Shine.
“It boiled down to who wanted it more. And the game showed who wanted it more,” said Reavis.
“The key to us is understanding the best few words in Game Seven. We’re just such a team. We believe. It’s character,” Reavis added. “We’ve been in this situation so many times before. We know what it takes, but we also know that Rain or Shine would never give up. We understood that.”
The Elasto Painters were poised to control the game as they piled a 17-point lead in the third quarter and limited the Hotshots to only score 37 points for the first three quarters. Yet, Magnolia reversed the scenario in the final quarter.
If RoS guard Rey Nambatac weren’t able to convert his step back three-pointer the game already went to Magnolia.
On May 1 it will be the rematch of last year’s finalists scheduled to be played at the Big Dome.
