The newly wed gentleman Jayson Castro may not suit up for Gilas Pilipinas in their upcoming games in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
That’s according to Yeng Guiao who will be returning as Gilas’ head coach for the said tournament.
“Meron lang kaming isa pang concern, yung situation ni Jayson Castro. So we have to finalize ‘yun ding status niya. Meron din kasi siyang mga personal priorities,” said the national coach.
“We will finalize that within the week if he’s staying with the team or taking a break,” added Guiao.
As mentioned, Castro finally tied the knot with his girlfriend, Lyle Castro. The wedding took place last June 15.
“Kung family man yan I don’t think anybody can blame you,” Guiao said of Castro. “So to me ang final say na kay Jayson.”
Guiao can’t say more about the current situation since Castro told him that it is a personal reason.
“Personal yung sinabi niya. I think he’s the only guy na puwededng sumagot doon. Ayoko naman ako ang sumagot doon sa personal issues niya,” explained the national mentor.
“Yun ang part of the sacrifice all tof hese guys have to make. Individually, everybody is making that sacrifice, and si jayson naman ang tagal ng nagsilbi sa national team. I don’t think you can say anything against him thinking about taking a break.”
Casto is dubbed as the Best Point Guard in Asia after helping Gilas campaign in several international tournaments.
He is one of the remaining casts who participated the 2014 FIBA World Cup which was held in Spain.
Also, Castro was one of the catalysts of Gilas push in the later part of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers where the Philippines squad almost lost its chances to grab the ticket going to China.
