Jayson Castro William Saves The Day For Gilas Pilipinas

Gilas Pilipinas scoring leader Jayson Castro William helped Gilas Pilipinas to secure a win against the visiting team Japan.

After got sidelined during the Gilas game against the Australia Boomers few days ago, Jayson Castro William is back and his eight points contribution is enough to topple the visiting opponent.

When Gilas ten-point lead was cut to only two points with less than two minutes remaining in the ball-game, coach Chot Reyes turned to his veteran point guard to deliver the winning basket and the Best Point Guard in Asia didn’t failed his mentor.

Early in the game, the Akatsuki Five didn’t waste time as they continually attacked the basket. Team Japan led as much as 16 points in the first quarter and stunned the crowd inside the Mall of Asia Arena.

Quickly, coach Chot Reyes shuffled his players and thrown in Kiefer Ravena, RR Pogoy, Troy Rosario and June Mar Fajardo in the floor. That new combination together with Gilas naturalized player Andray Blatche gave good result for the home team as they closed the gap to just a single point at the end of the first quarter.

Then in the second period, it was Gilas turn to mount and pile a big lead as the Japanese squad got stuck to their twenty-two opening quarter points. However, just like Gilas, team Japan stormed back and cut the deficit to five points after the first half buzzer had sounded.

The third quarter was dominated by Filipino dribblers but at the final quarter again the visiting team made another surge as they orchestrated 11-1 run. All of the Gilas faithfuls felt relieved after that two-point basket of Jayson Castro William.

Andray Blatche led the Filipino squad with his 18 points along with his 16 rebounds. This is Blatche’s best performance in the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Kiefer Ravena added 13 points where most of his damage came from the first quarter where Gilas was down by a double-digit lead while Troy Rosario chipped in 14 points.
