Gilas Pilipinas center June Mar Fajardo shown to everyone why he is the lone PBA five-time Most Valuable Player.
When Andray Blatche absorbed its fourth personal foul in the third quarter with only less than four minutes remaining, coach Yeng Guiao has no option but to pull out his naturalized player to protect him from fouling out from the game.
Since the opening quarter, Blatche is the anchor of Gilas in scoring.
Fans of the team Pilipinas might got worried in that instance since team Kazakhstan dominated their opponent back in Manila in their first meeting.
That match also had no Blatche in the lineup and Gilas got defeated.
Yet, the “Kraken” stepped up and was a monster inside the paint. Fajardo’s nine points and seven rebounds is enough to hold the ground for the national team.
“I got into foul trouble and I tip my hat to June Mar. He came in and he was really the game-changer for us and took over the game for us,” said Blatche.
Coach Yeng was also pleased with the performance of June Mar Fajardo who just recovered from flu.
“It was important that we were able to survive the foul troubles we were in. As (Blatche) mentioned, another big man June Mar Fajardo just took over when he (Blatche) was on the bench. That’s a key situation for us,” said Guiao.
