The 2019 PBA Philippine Cup finalists will grace the 45th PBA season opener this coming March 1, 2020.
The defending champion San Miguel Beermen will try to make a good start for its 2020 All-Filipino campaign and hopes for a sixth straight title in the league’s first conference.
The Magnolia Hotshots will try to prove that they’re still the real deal and for sure wanted a much better finish in the new upcoming season.
Both squads made adjustments to their lineup to help their team’s renewed crusade.
Though the Beermen no longer have Christian Standhardinger in their side yet this can be the conference where Mo Tautuaa can showcase his skills in SMB jersey. Still, the Leo Austria-coached squad has its dependable core that can continue to make a difference.
For the Magnolia side, they added another guard to its “Pambansang Backcourt” group.
In the last conference, they acquired Chris Banchero from Alaska Aces via a trade. Apart from the Fil-Italian, the Hotshots also added Jackson Corpuz in their roster.
In the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup, the series reached Game 7 where the Hotshots almost dethroned the Beermen. Yet, they blew their 17-point advantage and surrendered to its sister-team as San Miguel particularly in the final frame.
Prior to the San Miguel vs Magnolia game, the league will have its Leo Awards night. SMB’s June Mar Fajardo is one of the leading candidates for the MVP trophy and if he wins it then it’ll be his sixth.
