Rain or Shine Elasto Painters guard Chris Tiu spits out blood after he got elbowed by GlobalPort Batang Pier’s import Malcolm White during their bout at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.
Entering the halfway mark of the fourth quarter, the Elasto Painters are protecting their two-point lead as GlobalPort sleek guard Stanley Pringle decided to drive hard to the basket for a layup.
His shot got contested by Elasto Painters big-men and his shot wasn’t able convert. One of the players who was fighting for a defensive rebound was Chris Tiu up against the bigger Malcolm White.
As shown in the video, White erased the presence of Tiu by forceful elbow that sent the former Gilas Pilipinas member to the floor.
White was able to secure the offensive rebound and made a semi-hook shot which resulted to a tie ball-game.
Then everyone’s attention went to Tiu as he was still lying on the floor of the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“I lost consciousness for maybe two seconds,” he revealed. “Parang nasapak ako ni Pacquiao.”
Tiu had a decision to go to a local hospital to have him check but the former Ateneo Blue Eagles standout choose to stay in the game to get his revenge.
“Situations like these happen, and it’s part of basketball,” said Tiu. “Just be focused, and the objective is to win the game. That’s the best revenge we could give them.”
After that incident, Tiu was glad that his teeth are all still intact and no broken nose.
“I’m just happy na hindi natanggal ang ngipin ko or nabasag ang ilong ko,” he said.
Rain or Shine got the last laugh after several commotion inside the basketball court and currently at the top of the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup standings at 5-1 record.
