For the first time, Blackwater Elite won its season opener game as they beat Phoenix Fuel Masters 94-87.
If Luke Skywalker was the New Hope in Starwars episode IV, coach Leo Isaac found his new hope in rookie Mac Belo.
“Best start for Blackwater in any conference,” noted Isaac. “As I’ve said, it’s a new season for us. We’ve got some players who we really wanted. We’ve got renewed energy and new hope,” said Isaac.
The former PBA D-League MVP and a member of Gilas Pilipinas logged a team high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds in his PBA debut.
“May potential iyung bata, pero you have to guide him,” said Blackwater coach Leo Isaac.
“Meron pa rin siyang maliit na pagkakamali and that’s where the coaches should step in, to guide him para iyung tools niya would be properly sharpened and he would turn out to be the player he is projected to be.”
Second year player Art dela Cruz also made a big contribution with his double-doulbe efforts. He registered 12 points and seven rebounds.
Another Sophomore Simon Enciso led Phoenix Fuel Masters with 25 points while JC Intal added 12 points.
