The Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the GlobalPort Batang Pier at 7:00 P.M. on February 16, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After their magnificent five-game winning streak, the Hotshots dropped its previos two outings and figuring out how to return to their winning ways while the BatangPier are gunning for their back-to-back victories.
Despite of those absorbed losses, Magnolia still have a good chance on ending the eliminations round in a high note and be among the top two teams. Of course, it means a twice-to-beat advantage going to the quarterfinals.
Coach Chito Victolero’s plan to make sure to take home the win this evening is to be agressive inside the paint especially controlling the offensive rebounds of the Batang Pier.
“They’re so aggressive in getting the offensive rebounds. Overall, we expect a physical battle,” said Victolero.
Likewise, they need to prepare the run-and-gun tempo of GlobalPort.
“We have to be aggressive from start to finish. That’s our problem last game. We’re outworked by Rain or Shine,” said Victolero.
“For this game, we need to surpass the aggressiveness and effort of GlobalPort. Defensively, we need to contain their fastbreak and transition points as they keep on running the floor on every possession,” Victolero also said.
After beating the Talk ‘N Text KaTropa Texters in their last outing, GlobalPort now owns the eight and the last spot in order to proceed to second round. However, that slot can still be taken from them if BatangPier will not be able to take care their remaining schedule.
Coach Pido Jarencio is somehow confident that his troops can manage and secure those Ws in their remaining games.
“Maganda ang schedule namin in our last three games. After playing back-to-back against TNT and Magnolia, we get a weeklong rest before playing Kia. Pagkatapos non, a weeklong rest uli before playing Phoenix,” said Jarencio.
