The Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Meralco Bolts at 5:00 P.M. on February 24, 2018 live from the Xavier University Gym, Cagayan de Oro.
The chase for the twice-to-beat advantage going to the Quarterfinals round is what the Hotshots are after in CDO while at the same time the Bolts wanted to qualify in the next round of the 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup.
Having a glance to Magnolia win-loss record seems deceiving especially when they play outside Metro Manila. Coach Chito Victolero wanted to end their out-of-town losing drought.
“Four-game losing streak kami sa out-of-town. Hopefully, mapatid na namin ‘yun streak because it’s a very important game. We need to win it to solidify our chances for the Top Two,” said Victolero.
The Pambansang Manok are currently at the second spot below the league leading San Miguel Beermen. This afternoon will be the last game of Magnolia in the elimination round.
The best All-Filipino conference for coach Norman Black and his Bolts in the last two years. Their chances to make it to the playoffs are still possible only if they can secure a win today.
“The game versus the Hotshots will be a playback of what we have seen in our last two games against Phoenix and Ginebra. Once again, it’s do or die for us,” said Meralco coach Norman Black.
“So we will have to limit our turnovers versus the pressure defense of Magnolia while also trying to limit their big men off the boards,” Black also said. “Slowing down the backcourt of Paul Lee and Mark Barroca will also be a big concern.”
