As hot as the Golden State Warriors who are currently seeking another NBA title after 30 years up against the Cleveland Cavaliers, there is a news spreading online that the so-called Philippine’s National Fist has purchased the full ownership the ball club led by Stephen Curry.
Here’s what ManilaLink posted on their site after the alleged transaction completed:
OAKLAND – As quick and shocking as a knockout, the first and only eight-division world champion and Philippine Congressman, Manny Pacquiao, has bought full ownership of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. The Warriors announced the purchase today at a press conference held in Oakland, California.
Pacman made waves today in the basketball world after buying off sole ownership of the Warriors team. He will have full control of the organization including its team and staff. The boxer turned politician already runs a basketball team in the Philippines called the Kia Motors where he is a playing coach.
The mega movie star is also seeking ventures in China where he looks to buy a basketball franchise to run in Hong Kong. “If possible, he will also buy a team in the European leagues. We have been keeping an eye in Europe for an up-and-coming team like the Warriors, so look out for that,” his agent addressed the media.
This is not Manny Pacquiao’s first encounter with the Golden State Warriors as he was recorded to be practicing in their court late 2014 to promote his fight against Algieri. He was able to meet the likes of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. The latter told ESPN that he was “happy and excited” about the purchase. The Warriors are regarded as one of the NBA Western Conference’s top contenders for the title race.
We tried searching that same news from other sports news giant like ESPN, YAHOO Sports and even on the official NBA website but we haven’t seen any confirmation that Pacman is now the new boss of Golden State Warriors.
The said speculation might be another fan theory after watching Manny Pacquiao playing at the Warriors practice facility in Oakland. In the Youtube video, Manny was there as part of his cross training. He shared to the media that back in the Philippines he’s also a basketball player and the playing coach of Kia Motors plus he shared his admiration to the 2015 NBA’s Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry.
After watching the entire video, there’s no glimpse of Manny will purchase the full ownership of Golden State Warriors. So clearly as of now, that viral news is most likely a hoax. But the idea of Manny Pacquiao owning an NBA team is not beyond his reach. As we all know, Manny Pacquiao is not just a boxer, he’s also a businessman, maybe one day Pacquiao will surprise us just like how he entered in the Philippines Basketball Association (PBA).
