The Meralco Bolts is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Blackwater Elite at 4:15 P.M. on December 22, 2017 live from the Cuneta Astrodome.
The All-Filipino conference wasn’t that too friendly with coach Norman Black and his Meralco Bolts. In the past two Philippine Cup conferences, Meralco found itself ended up in the bottom of the standings.
In 2015-16 season the Bolts only managed to log just one win and finished 12th while in the 2016-17 they got three wins and finished the eliminations round at number 11.
To add more concerns to coach Norman Black, this conference they no longer have Allen Durham plus Ranidel de Ocampo and Cliff Hodge both out due to injuries.
Despite these shortcomings Meralco chief bench tactician still have a positive outlook in their today’s schedule.
“We will start the season a little undermanned because of injuries,” admitted Meralco coach Norman Black. “But still we are excited about the start of the season and are looking forward to being much more competitive this all-Filipino,” he added.
To take over the slot left by Hodge and de Ocampo, Meralco will depend on their new acquisitions. This season Jason Ballesteros, KG Canaleta, Nico Salva and Mac Baracael will be seen donning Bolts uniform.
Last conference, it marked the first time that the Elite advanced to the Quarterfinals round. One of the key reasons was the addition of Allein Maliksi to Blackwater’s lineup.
Likewise, they beefed up their roster by adding their third overall pick Raymar Jose and the return of much healthier Mac Belo.
“We would want to have a good start in this conference,” said Elite coach Leo Isaac. “And with that being said, we are going all out for a win in our game versus Meralco tomorrow,” Isaac added.
