The Meralco Bolts is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the GlobalPort Batang Pier at 4:30 P.M. on January 28, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Both teams are currently at the middle of the 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup standings along with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. One team will go up while the other will join NLEX Road Warriors and the Blackwater Elite at the bottom after the curtain raiser encounter.
The last time Kelly Nabong was with the Bolts he was sitting at the very far end of the bench and had his jersey ripped. After that he was never seen playing with the Bolts as the team management gave him a suspension.
Now with a new team this All-Filipino conference, expect that Kelly Nabong will unleash his A-game and will prove something to his former team.
Still without their high-scorer in Terrence Romeo, coach Pido Jarencio will continue to depend the scoring load from Stanley Pringle and Sean Anthony.
Unlike Meralco, GlobalPort previous opponent was the still zero-defeat San Miguel Beermen while the Bolts took care the struggling Kia Picanto which is at the last spot of the standings.
Finally after four games of being sidelined, the high-energy forward Cliff Hodge is back and straightaway boosted his team to snap a two-game slide.
“Probably just his presence really helped us a great deal tonight because he does give a lot of effort out there, particularly on the defensive end,” said Black. “He’s a good team player so I’m happy to see him back,” he added.
Cliff Hodge had undergone a surgery (bone spur removal) prior to the start of the 43rd PBA season. The other player which Meralco fans have waiting to return and strengthen their chances to advance to the next round and perhaps going back to the PBA Finals is Ranidel de Ocampo who is still nursing an injury.
