The Meralco Bolts is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Kia Picanto at 6:45 P.M. on August 6, 2017 live from Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Bolts and the Picantos are in a different and opposite sides of the 2017 PBA Governor’s Cup standings. Meralco is at the top with their still undefeated record of 3-0 while Kia still searching for answers on how to draw a number 1 in their win column.
After their loss against the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel where they got whipped by a surmountable lead (120-99), the Picantos stayed almost two hours inside their dugout discussing things how they can improve in their next games.
Coach Chris Gavina is on a mission of changing the mindset of his players towards winning.
“I’ve always believed that as long as my players give their heart, body and soul towards one another, we can accomplish what others may deem impossible,” said Gavina.
“I have been really adamant about changing the mindset of our players. I’ve been challenging all of them to not put a ceiling to their potential. I know we can beat anyone if we come in with a ‘losing-is-not-an-option’ mindset,” Gavina also said.
Meralco is on a three-game winning ride and one of those victories is against the defending champion Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. Without a doubt, they’re the heavily favorite team in tonight’s main game.
The 2016 PBA Best Import, Allen Durham is all business once more. Durham averaged 20+ points and 20+ rebounds in Meralco’s last two outings.
Adding to coach Gavina concern is the hot shooting of Jared Dillenger who is also doing spectacular plays especially from the three-point area.
Dillinger dropped 16 points against Rain or Shine where he converted four three-pointers in eight tries. Two of those are either contested or a buzzer-beater.
