The Meralco Bolts is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters at 7:00 P.M. on February 2, 2018 live from the Mall of Asia Arena.
Both the Bolts and the Elasto Painters are on a rollercoaster ride this 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup. Having a consistent winning momentum should start now inorder for them to qualify to the next round.
After they demolished the Kia Picanto with a final score of 105-76, then few days later Meralco surrendered to GlobalPort Batang Pier, 107-88. Although he admitted that his exceptional performance wasn’t inspired by hate but Kelly Nabong demolished his former team especially in the cleaning up the boards.
Coach Norman Black knows that rebounding is one of the reasons why they got beaten in their last outing and this must be addressed to snag a win this evening.
“I thought we got manhandled by Global and we didn’t really respond very well,” said Black.
“We got killed on the boards, and if we don’t control the middle of the court, we’re not gonna win very many games,” he added. “So that’s something we really have to work on. We have to become better at getting our defensive rebounds so we can get out there and run and get some baskets,” he added.
Apart from rebounding, coach Black may also bank on the current player issues being dealt by Rain or Shine. Both Jericho Cruz and Raymond Almazan are vocal that they wanted to get traded.
“Payag na ang management at si coach Caloy na i-trade si Jericho basta may makukuha silang acceptable na kapalit,” said Danny Espiritu, the agent of both Cruz and Almazan.
“As for Raymond, sabi ni coach Caloy susubukan pa niyang kausapin at baka konting tampo lang naman,” Espiritu also said.
Coach Caloy Garcia decided to bench Almazan in their game against the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters then on their next schedule versus the Kia Picanto, Almazan was slapped with a technical foul after got involved in a scuffle.
