The Meralco Bolts is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Talk ‘N Text KaTropa Texters at 4:15 P.M. on June 5, 2017 in Smart Araneta Coliseum.
First schedule for the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup is between the Bolts and the KaTropa Texters.
Both teams are big especially that each clubs will be parading its mammoth imports as well as its talented players.
March 24 was the last time that these two teams clashed with each other. KaTropa at that time bring in seasoned NBA player in Luo Amundson but bowed down to the Bolts because of the inside of presence of Alex Stepheson.
TNT got beaten by Meralco in that match 94-89.
Probably coach Nash Racela and his entire coaching staff sees something in Stepheson that’s why despite of the steady game from Amundson and his replacement Donte Green, KaTropa still went on import searching and eventually hired Joshua Smith.
The first time Stepheson came to PBA he was exactly appear like Smith and just like his Bolts counterpart he is also unstoppable inside the paint because of its size and strength.
“We just have to prepare for them, because it’s them who we’re expecting to play,” said Meralco coach Norman Black.
Apart from their foreign hires, both teams are almost identical when it comes to their local players especially in their back-court tandems.
If TNT have Pogoy-Castro combination, Bolts will have its answer with the duo of Baser and Newsome.
For coach Norman Black, defense will be the key on winning the game against the KaTropa.
“Defense will once again be the key for us to slow down the KaTropa and pick up a win because it would be difficult to engage them in a high-scoring contest,” he added.
