After a while, two teams under the MVP franchise will battle for a Finals slot and that’s the Bolts and the KaTropa as they commence their semis clash tonight at the Big Dome.
The two weeks respite gave all of the teams that made it to the semi-finals round of the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup an important rest and preparation. Well of course except for those who participated in the 2019 SEA Games that delivered a gold medal for the country.
As of the moment, coach Norman Black’s team benefited on that two weeks PBA break where it appears that Raymond Almazan recovered from his calf injury.
“We are healthy going into the series,” said Black.
Almazan suffered an injury after he made a slam dunk against the Alaska Aces in their quarterfinals battle. He was seen limping as he approached their bench.
For Talk ‘N Text on the other hand, still, there’s no report if RR Pogoy will be available for their Game 1 semis game.
Yet, according to coach Tim Cone who served as the Gilas head coach prior to the start of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Pogoy needed two weeks for him to return to basketball action.
“The prognosis is he (Pogoy) will need a couple of weeks before he can return to the court. That, unfortunately, will eliminate him from the Gilas lineup,” Cone said.
Though Pogoy is one of the important catalysts in coach Bong Ravena squad, still TNT has a lot of manpower they can deploy.
Their most recent acquisitions like Ray Parks and Allein Maliksi plus the return of their franchise player Jayson Castro will surely give Meralco a hard time in this series.
“It’s important that we get into a good rhythm immediately,” said Black. “Our ability to defend in transition and also the three-point line will be keys.”
