Mighty Sports Philippines won the bronze medal of the 30th Dubai International Basketball Tournament against the Homenetmen Lebanon, 91-76.
Just reaching the semis is what the primary goal of the team Philippines when they joined this year’s Dubai based basketball league.
Guess what, they did more than that. Coach Charles Tiu and the rest of the team will be bringing home a medal back to the country.
Though they came short on reaching the Finals but this is the best finish the representative of Philippines in the said tournament.
Likewise, this year is completely the opposite of what happen in 2017 where they only logged one victory.
This 2019, Mighty Sports had 6-1 win-loss card. They made a five-game winning streak, a complete sweep in their Group B bracket then a victory in the quarterfinals round.
Former Barangay Ginebra San Miguel guard Jett Manuel led the national squad with 19 points in the bronze medal match where he rewarded coach Tiu with the ample amount of playing time given to him.
“I’m very satisfied with the result because we’re going home with a medal,” said co-owner Alex Wongchuking.
“This third place finish is already a big accomplishment,” added brother Ceasar, the other co-owner of the club.
