The Mighty Sports Philippines will start its 31st Dubai International Basketball Tournament up against the United Arab Emirates national basketball team tonight at the Shabab Al Ahli Club.

With the Filipino population in UAE close to a million where the majority of them live in Dubai, they’re expected to flock the arena and will serve as the Mighty Sports squad sixth-man.

However, this is also the home-court of their opponent so it’s expected that their local supporters will also be present to support their beloved team.

One of the attractions of team Philippines was supposed to be the young Kai Sotto, yet, due to conflict on his schedule, he won’t be able to join his brothers in their Dubai based tournament campaign.

However, head coach Charles Tiu still has Thirdy Ravena, Isaac Go, Dave Ildefonso, Juan and Javi Gomez de Liano in his line-up who are tested winners.

Plus, team Philippines got former Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player Andray Blatche and his fellow NBA veteran Renaldo Balkman to spearhead the Filipino squad.

“We have a solid crew and we are confident of our chances,” Coach Charles Tiu said.

“Our local players are some of the best from college while Andray and Balkman are expected to provide huge help for the team,” he added.
