Road Warriors best conference last season is the Philippine Cup where they registered six wins and five losses.

The team able was able to defy the odds by beating the Alaska Aces which then carries a twice-to-beat advantage.

They gave the Magnolia Hotshots a hard time in the semi-finals round but when Kevin Alas went down due to a season ending injury, their chance to make it to the Finals faded.

In the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, another major issue the team has to deal with. That’s the suspension of Kiefer Ravena who was then the leading candidate for the Rookie of the Year award.

Though, struggling with his PBA team, coach Yeng Guiao was given a bigger role in the national basketball squad. Guiao was tasked to lead the Gilas Pilipinas during the 2018 Asian Games and to the remaining games of team Pilipinas in the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

That stint made an intro to the new relationship of the head coach and Poy Erram.

During the off-season, NLEX pursued the 6-foor-8 slotman as they traded most of their valuable assets. It started with the trade of Allex Mallari and bruiser Dave Marcelo to the Phoenix Fuel Masters for their fourth pick rights in the 2018 PBA Rookie Draft. Then packaged their own seventh pick and the acquired fourth pick to Blackwater Elite.

Those picks turned out to be Paul Desiderio and Abu Tratter.

Kevin Alas is expected to join the team and will be available to play in their season opener while Kiefer Ravena’s case was reported that it’s under negotiation and if it fail to agree to terms, then Ravena can only suit up in the end part of 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup or on 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup. That’s after the “Phenom” completed his 18-month suspension slapped by FIBA and the PBA.
