The NLEX Road Warriors is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Blackwater Elite at 7:00 P.M. on August 18, 2017 live from Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Road Warriors seems like brewing another winning streak after they put on halt at four while the Elites are likewise looking to make back-to-back victories
Looking at the current 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup standings, the 1-3 win-loss record registered by Blackwater looks deceiving especially that tonight they’ll be clashing against the most surprising team this conference, the Road Warriors which is now at 5-1 card.
In Phoenix last outing, their new acquired import, Henry Walker who also played with NLEX last conference wasted no time and immediately dropped 32 points and 15 rebounds.
They have stunned the Fuel Masters and took advantage without their opponent’s talented import.
That first victory of Elite didn’t passed the careful eyes of coach Yeng Guiao and it appears that he knows the key to that win.
“Blackwater is always dangerous more now that they have a prolific import in Henry Walker who by the way played for this franchise last year,” said Guiao.
After a forgetful Philippine and Commissioner’s Cup, NLEX is now a win away to qualify for the Quarterfinals round. If they’ll end up successful after their 7 P.M. game, then they’ll be the first team to have a guaranteed playoff spot.
“We consider our game versus Blackwater as crucial because we calculate that six wins assures us of a quarters slot. The sooner we get to six wins the better our chances of working on the twice-to-beat advantage,” said NLEX coach Yeng Guiao.
Previously, Guiao was unsure if his team is now a real deal in the PBA but after their game against the last year’s runner-up Meralco Bolts, it seems that his view is now changed and starting to believe that they now belong to the elite clubs.
“Meralco is a good team especially in import-laden conference. They’re a good test and we passed a difficult test,” said Guiao, hoping his team to get better with the addition on Baguio.
Another feature in tonight’s game is the inclusion of Cyrus Baguio to NLEX roster. Baguio was one of the players that helped the now defunct Red Bull Barako to win a championship and the head coach that time was also coach Yeng Guiao.
The player movement initiated by the Road Warriors which started last conference is now giving them good results.
