The NorthPort Batang Pier is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters at 4:30 P.M. on June 26, 2019 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Batang Pier are looking to extend their winning streak to five and take the solo leadership of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup standings while the Fuel Masters are eyeing for a quick bounce back when the tournament resume this afternoon in the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

With the problem on NorthPort’s manpower rotation due to several of its players are out due to injuries and with their aim to be one of the teams to reach the biggest stage of the PBA, a surprising move was made by the franchise.

On June 18, the Batang Pier had shipped their scoring champion Stanley Pringle in exchange for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel trio, Sol Mercado, Kevin Ferrer and Jervy Cruz.

At first there were fans as well as PBA insiders pondering if it was a balanced trade.

Then the test began after the involved players made their respective debuts in their new teams and it appears that the players transaction which got approved by the Commissioner’s office is indeed balance.

Well at least in their first appearances with their new ball-clubs.

The newly acquired players of coach Pido Jarencio squad produced 53 points, 21 rebounds and 12 assists when they dismantled the import-less Blackwater Elite last Saturday.

Kevin Ferrer was even named as the Best Player of the Game.

Coach Jarencio is very pleased on the direction of his team.

“Sinabi ko naman sa inyo, makakatulong ‘yung tatlo,” said NorthPort Pido Jarencio after that game. “Nakita natin tumulong. Kahit papaano gumanda rotation natin.”

For the Phoenix on the other hand, currently the squad led by coach Louie Alas also have players on their injured list.

This afternoon they’ll be playing without the services of LA Revilla, Jaypee Mendoza, Michael Gamboa and Rey Guevarra.

Also, the reigning Rookie of the Year Jason Perkins is not on his 100% because of his shoulder problems.

Likewise, Calvin Abueva continue to sit-out unless he will take action what the league wanted him to do.

Phoenix is a team which their main weapon is their pressure defense. Coach Louie needed fresh legs most of the time for them to execute it properly at least in the 48 minutes of basketball action.
