Former NBA player John Holland finally made his PBA debut but failed to deliver the needed victory for the San Miguel Beermen.
In his first game as a Beermen, Holland only made 10 points in a 4-of-13 shooting along with his 10 rebounds.
SMB head coach Leo Austria gave him 37 minutes of playing time but it appears that he’s still adjusting to the basketball system of his new bench tactician.
As a result, the Beermen got buried with 22 big points in the first three quarters.
In the final period, coach Austria went to his All-Filipino squad to start the quarter.
With the locals’ familiarity with one another, the Beermen made some spurt and cut the ROS advantage to a much manageable lead.
Then on the 6:38 mark, Holland was sent back to the Hoops Dome basketball floor to help his team make the final push.
On the 1:51 mark, the former Cleveland Cavaliers player made a three-pointer after SMB timeout to keep them much closer, 82-87. That might be the glance of what he can bring to the grand slam seeking squad.
John Holland Crucial Three-Pointer In The Fourth Quarter
According to earlier reports, Holland arrived in the country last Friday and if that’s correct then he only had one day to prepare himself for their out-of-town game. That could also be the reason for his flat-footed performance in Cebu.
