Gilas Pilipinas is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the PBA All-Star Visayas at 6:30 P.M. on April 30, 2017 in Hoops Dome Gym, Lapu-Lapu City.
The PBA All-Star caravan now shifted to Cebu where the national team will go up against the best basketball players hailed from Visayas.
In their first battle in Cagayan de Oro City, both Gilas and PBA All-Star Mindanao ended with a deadlock, the final score was 114 for each squad.
Troy Rosario and Matthew Wright were proclaimed as the game’s Most Valuable Players.
In their second round head-to-head in Lucena, Gilas shown the true meaning of “#PUSO“.
The national team were down by 17 in the third quarter but they took advantage each mistakes committed by the PBA All-Star Luzon and was able to make a comeback in the fourth quarter and sealed the deal.
Jonathan Grey of Meralco Bolts seems like he’s trying to send a message to coach Norman Black that he’s also a scoring threat and deserves more minutes in the hardcourt.
The rookie registered a team-high of 19 points but it was Matthew Wright got the PBA All-Star Luzon Leg Most Valuable Player award.
After the Lucena game, coach Chot Reyes has announced the 12 Gilas Players who will suit up for the upcoming 2017 SEABA Championship tournament.
Part of the lineup are Jun Mar Fajardo and Terrence Romeo.
Initially, Romeo and Fajardo are both expected to be in the PBA All-Star Visayas squad but because of Reyes announcement of his Gilas roster, both players will be joining the rest of the Gilas.
Coach Tim Cone who will handle the star players of Visayas promised that the game is not just a walk in the park. He gave assurance that they will give Gilas a good taste of basketball game.
“Our approach is that were there for a purpose. It’s not an All-Star game in our minds but were there for a purpose to get the national team ready,” said Cone.
PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa also shown 100% support to the Gilas program.
“The PBA is committed to supporting Gilas Pilipinas in any way we can. Afterall, the members (of Gilas Pilipinas) are all PBA players,” said Narvasa.
