With the All-Filipino conference title at stake, the first-seeded Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Gin Kings will battle it out against the third-seeded TNT Tropang Giga starting this Sunday.
The Gin Kings reign over the underdog yet fierce-fighting Meralco Bolts in their do-or-die Game 5 clash, 83-80.
During the dying seconds of the fourth quarter and an 80-all deadlock, Scottie Thompson throws a huge trey to cap a near triple-double performance and lift Barangay Ginebra to the PBA Philippine Cup finale, thus gaining a crack at a first all-Filipino crown in 13 years.
“Tinira ko na lang dahil wala ng oras. Tinira ko na lang at si God na ang nag-shoot non. Very thankful kami nanalo. Talagang tough game. Lahat ng hard work namin mula sa offseason, sa quarantine break at hanggang sa bubble, nag-pay off,” said Thompson.
Thompson goes 7-of-15 from the field and comes through with 12 rebounds and seven assists against four turnovers. Simultaneously, veterans Stanley Pringle, LA Tenorio, and Japeth Aguilar also provided a huge lift for the Barangay Ginebra, combining for a massive 48 points and 21 collective rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Tropang Giga defeated the second-seeded Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, 91-81, to close out their semifinals duel and advance to the finals.
Bobby Ray Parks Jr. leads his squad anew with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, with 15 of his points coming in the fourth quarter that was mainly responsible for keeping Phoenix at bay.
Aside from Parks, four other TNT players finished with at least 11 points: Simon Enciso, Jay Washington, Roger Pogoy, and Jayson Castro.
