Here are the live scores, updates, and results of the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup between the NorthPort Batang Pier and the San Miguel Beermen (SMB), scheduled on July 25, 2021, at 2:00 PM.
NorthPort Batang Pier and San Miguel Beermen appear to have finally found their real form in the PBA Philippine Cup, based on their recent games.
In Batang Pier’s previous match, rookie Troy Rike goes wild from deep as NorthPort wrecks ice-cold Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, 115-79, in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Wednesday, July 21.
With 8:15 left in regulation, the former US NCAA and UAAP prospect scored a career-high 20 points on 6-of-7 shooting from outside the arc, including four straight treys in the payoff period to keep the Batang Pier’s 32-point advantage, 97-65.
Robert Bolick contributed 20 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds, while Kevin Ferrer added 20 points and a game-high nine rebounds off the bench.
Batang Pier maintained their attacking zeal throughout the game and finished with a 36-point lead.
“For me this will be our game. More on defense and ‘yung offense darating na lang, ang flow darating na lang,” Jarencio stated after the triumph, which saw six of his players score at least 12 points while holding the Fuel Masters to only 31 of 97 field-goal attempts.
“We invested in defense. Pagkatapos ‘yung offense madali na lang. Everybody will contribute, everybody will do their share,” added Jarencio.
San Miguel, on the other hand, should be a tougher nut to crack.
Six Beermen scored in double figures in a 110-73 win over NLEX last Friday, as they got out to a fast start before easily quashing any Road Warriors’ challenge and cruised to a victory that avenged their 87-93 loss to Meralco Bolts the day before.
The fact that the Beermen won despite the absence of Terrence Romeo (injured left knee), six-time MVP June Mar Fajardo flexing old form with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and CJ Perez fully delivering the buckets expected of him add to the Beermen’s stunning victory.
Star big man Mo Tautuaa also came off the pine for a 16-point, 9-rebound outing in just 22 minutes.
The last time these two teams faced in the PBA bubble, SMB closed out their elimination round on a high note with a 120-97 demolition of the NorthPort Batang Pier that sank the latter to the bottom of the standing alongside Terrafirma Dyip with a 1-9 record.
Arwind Santos led the balanced thrashing with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists on a 4/7 three-point shooting clip.
Fellow cogs Marcio Lassiter and Mo Tautuaa both scored 21 points, while Von Pessumal came off the bench to score 15 points.
The All-Filipino Cup will proceed to the quarterfinals in its customary format, with the top eight teams advancing. Against the eighth and seventh seeds, the top two seeds will have a twice-to-beat advantage. Meanwhile, in a best-of-three series, No. 3 will face No. 6, and No. 4 will face No. 5. Best-of-seven matches will be played in the semifinals and finals.
Unlike last season’s setup, the league will have a closed-circuit system for the Philippine Cup this time, with teams, league employees, and the media encouraged to keep a venue-home pattern to limit COVID-19 exposure.
The games will be held four times a week. The conference is also scheduled to go through the end of October.
