The Alaska Aces is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters at 4:15 P.M. on April 21, 2017 in Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Both teams are looking forward to bounce back from a loss in the ongoing 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Aces aims to keep its position at third in the standings while the Fuel Masters will try to strenghten their hopes to the playoffs.
Calvin Abueva will sport a new look this afternoon as the man who is known as “the Beast” in the PBA will be seeing wearing a mask. That will instantly give him an upgraded and much cooler monicker as “the Masked Beast”.
Abueva was accidentally elbowed by Gilas member Almond Vosotros during the national basketball team practice last Monday. Still, the hardworking forward of the Aces will be available in their Friday schedule.
“Malayo ito sa bituka,” said Abueva. “Lalaro ako tsaka mageensayo pa rin ako sa Monday sa Gilas.”
Despite the fact that Phoenix is having another subpar conference performance, Alaska coach Alex Compton is looking beyond the stats and figures.
“Phoenix is a better team than their record indicates,” said Compton on the eve of the match.
“(Jameel) McKay is such an active, aggressive player who really uses his length to his advantage. And Cyrus (Baguio), RJ (Jazul), (Matthew) Wright and JC (Intal) are all playmakers who can both score and create for their teammates,” noted Compton.
Phoenix had a winnable game against their last assignment the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. They were able to pile up a big lead as high as 17 points but it was all erased after RoS made a late scoring surge.
