The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters at 5:00 P.M. on April 1, 2017 in University of Southeastern Philippines Gym, Davao City.
Barangay Ginebra will make its second conference debut down south in the home province of Scottie Thompson. On the other hand, the Fuel Masters is looking to halt their losing skid in this scheduled out-of-town game.
Justin Brownlee will be suiting up with Ginebra after he helped coach Tim Cone’s squad in securing the 2016 PBA Governor’s Cup trophy against the Meralco Bolts.
One of his memorable highlights was when he sank a three-pointer and beating the buzzer in the final quarter.
The last time he played in the PBA, Brownlee was matched up against a much smaller imports and now in the second conference it will be a new territory for him as the foreign hire of the opposing teams are taller and bigger.
Especially Meralco Bolts’ Alex Stepheson who is currently leading his team to a 4-0 win-loss record.
Ginebra is one of the two PBA teams which hasn’t made a single game this 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup so far, the other one is the San Miguel Beermen which is also scheduled to make its first appearance this coming Sunday.
As mentioned by coach Ariel Vanguardia, Mathew Wright isn’t 100% yet. Phoenix needs to have more support from its local players in terms of scoring.
Jameel McKay had a stellar performance against their last assignment, the Talk ‘N Text KaTropa Texters. The long-haired import tallied 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
However, Phoenix got outscored by TNT bench 59-42 and that was one of the factors why they lost the game.
