The Ginebra San Miguel is scheduled for a Game 6 Semi-Finals round against the Purefoods-Star Hotshots at 6:30 P.M. on February 19, 2017 in Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The continuation of the best-of-seven series between Ginebra and Star resumes today. Hotshots is currently leading 3-2.
The momentum of Star vs Ginebra series has now shifted back to Hotshots favor and has the potential to close it tonight.
Marc Pingirs and Paul Lee got foul troubled in the first half, Pingris got 3 while Lee slapped with 2. It was the turn for coach Chito Victolero to go deep in his bench and was able to find gold mines.
Rodney Brondial was the Hotshots’ big man who stepped in and took some of the playing time of Pingris. Brondial who wasn’t a factor in the series delivered big for coach Victolero where he scored 8 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.
He was even named as the Firefly’s Kasama mo Player of the Half. His teammate Peter Jun Simon was also productive who helped his team with 8 points. Most of his points also came in the first half where Lee sitting in the bench.
Star started the third quarter with a scoring surge where they lead as much as 17 points behind the hot hands of Allein Maliksi. He registered a total of 10 points where most of those damage came from Hotshot’s second-half opening quarter run.
In the fourth quarter, Barangay Ginebra’s mantra “Never-Say-Die” was in display once again as they cut the deficit to only seven points 80-87 with 2:14 minutes remaining in the final quarter.
It was the beloved “Fast and the Furious” duo of Ginebra orchestrated the final stand. It happen when Mark Caguioa catched a lose ball and passed to Jayjay Helterbrand for a three-pointer.
Ginebra fans suddenly woke up and shook the Arena of Mall of Asia, unfortunately the next few positions of the Barangay were unproductive until the final buzzer sound.
