The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Meralco Bolts at 7:00 P.M. on April 2, 2017 in Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After securing the 2016-17 PBA Philippine Cup trophy, the Beermen starts its campaign tonight for a back-to-back championship while the Bolts is aiming for a five straight victories.
The real test for coach Norman Black and the rest of Meralco Bolts is set at 7:00 P.M., they will be battling a double low-post threat in June Mar Fajardo and Beermen’s new import Charles Rhodes.
Everybody knows what the “Kraken” can give but its new foreign hire capability is still a mystery. This gives a little bit of concern to coach Black.
“We don’t know what they’re throwing at us. Meanwhile, we have played four games, and so they’ve got an idea on what we want to do,” said Black.
Rhodes is no visitor when it comes to winning games especially putting up defensive stance inside the paint. Beermen’s import is the current second all-time Korean Basketbll League leader in block shots.
“Another good thing about him, he’s got a winner’s mentality,” coach Leo Austria said.
If Rhodes will perform as advertised then it’s a great showdown between him and the now proven Alex Stepheson.
Stepheson is currently unstoppable inside the paint and his rebounding ability is superb. Baser Amer and Jared Dillinger are the other players in Meralco who shows brillance this ongoing conference.
