The GlobalPort Batang Pier is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Meralco Bolts at 4:15 P.M. on January 6, 2017 in Mall of Asia Arena.
Two teams who are looking for a fresh start this New Year and shake away the losing dusts from its shoulders.
Many heads turned to GlobalPort Batang Pier during its few games as they topped the 2016-17 PBA Philippine Cup standings. Batang Pier is one of the surprising teams this conference led by their Golden Boy, Terrence Romeo.
However, before the year ends they found themselves in the middle of the stacks along with their back-to-back losses.
GlobalPort was 3-0 when they limit their opponents to 84 points and probably that might be in the minds of the players and coaching staff of Batang Pier.
Meralco needs to tap the scoring services from its rookie Ed Daquioag who averaged 23 points per game in the Bolts two wins. Starting Forward Cliff Hodge should try to look for more shots to maximize his 30+ minutes playing time apart from the energy he gave to his team.
Hodge is only averaging around 8 shots per contest. He is a capable long range shooter and if the opposing team finds him as a threat then other bigs will be stretched away from the basket. Which means, smaller guys can dominate inside the paint in the absence of opponent’s low post intimidator.
