PBA News: Ato Ular Wins The Player Of The Week Award, First Rookie To Do So This Season

The Blackwater Bossing shocked the league with their outstanding start in the conference after having a poor performance in the previous Governors’ Cup as they only won one game and lost ten out of their total eleven matches.

The Bossing are now sitting at the number three spot in the standings category with a 4-1 record behind the powerhouse San Miguel Beermen, who is at the top of the category with six wins and one loss, and the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, who is at the second place of the list with five victories and one defeat. In addition, Blackwater also has a three-game winning streak.

Within those five contests, Renato “Ato” Ular, a product from Letran, has produced impressive outputs for the squad, racking up 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting with decent efficiency as he converted 57% of his attempts on the field.

Moreover, Ular had a big performance for Blackwater in their clash against the Meralco Bolts back in the 30th of June as they triumph over them with a final score of 90-89. Because of his magnificent outputs for Blackwater, he earns the Cignal Play-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week.

In their head-to-head matchup against the Bolts, the 6-foot-4 forward of Blackwater tallied 19 points and 15 huge boards, finishing the game with a notable double-double performance for the Bossing. Ular also had big plays for the team late in the game as he hit a game-tying conversion with 48 seconds left remaining before setting up a screen for Baser Amer, who knocked down the game-winning shot to defeat his former team.

Furthermore, Ular became the first rookie to win the weekly award and the first one to do so since Jamie Malonzo, Northport’s sensational forward, in the recent Governors’ Cup.
