The Columbian Dyip surprised once again the mighty San Miguel Beermen but this time in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, 134-132.
CJ Perez was one of the reasons of their victory last 2019 PBA Philippine Cup and this evening he did it again.
The number one overall pick of the 2018 PBA Draft proved his worth as he dropped an import-like stats with his 34 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.
His last basket in the overtime period gave his team a four-point advantage enough for them to secure a victory and snap their three-game losing skid.
Lester Proper also had his own surprises to their opponent as he launched several three-pointers which most likely not on the scouting reports gathered by the Beermen.
Prosper connected six treys out of his thirteen attempts. He was also magnificent in the tonight’s match where he manufactured 40 points and 13 rebounds performance.
Despite being in the cellar of the second conference tournament, Columbian were able to stun the Beermen.
They led as much as 14 points and they made San Miguel like an ordinary team.
Yet, in the fourth quarter, coach Leo Austria found his “magic-bonut” from his bench as Kelly Nabong sparked San Miguel’s comeback.
In just seven minutes of playing time, he gave his team 8 points plus some hustle but most especially the energy he provided to his teammates.
Arwind Santos completed their late run with his three-pointer which pushed the game to overtime.
In the extra period, the ball-club led by coach Johnedel Cardel continue to pound the defending champs of the All-Filipino conference until that winning layup of CJ Perez.
The Beermen now dropped to 2-5 record while the Dyip improved to 2-6 slate.
