The NorthPort Batang Pier is now officially qualified to the quarterfinals round after they beat the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, 98-93.

NorthPort Batang Pier high-flyer import Michael Qualls led his team to victory where most of his points came from slam dunks.

Qualls manufactured 30 points and 13 rebounds along with his five rebounds, good enough for him to be named as Best Player of the Game.

Sean Anthony added 18 points while Christian Standhardinger chipped in 17 markers and 18 boards.

NorthPort had their huge rally during the second period where they outscored Ginebra 31-23.

Yet, the Gin Kings backed by their sixth man which is their huge fan base inside the Big Dome were able to bounce back in the second half and reclaim the lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Batang Pier piled a needed separation after Christian Standhardinger made his layup at the 2:49 mark.

That gave NorthPort a five-point lead.

However, LA Tenorio refused to let the Batang Pier easily as he put the Gin Kings within striking distance after he swished his corner perimeter jumper, 96-97 at the 1:37 mark.

Ginebra had one more chance to win the game after Paulo Taha split his free-throw attempts, yet, the deep three-pointer of Jeff Chan with only 0.8 seconds remaining was off.

With the victory, NorthPort is now the owner of the number seven spot of the standings and will move to the next round of the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
