The Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters has evaded the never-say-die spirit of the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, 103-101.
Matthew Wright seems like there’s ice flowing in his veins as he calmly converted a game-winning shot with only six seconds remaining left on the game.
Wright finished the game with 28 points but his 5-of-9 from beyond the arc was a huge difference. He was later named as the Best Player of the Game.
Fuel Masters import Eugene Phelps had a career night as he delivered a triple-double performance with 27 points, 23 rebounds, and 14 assists.
Ginebra gave up 41 points in the opening quarter to Phoenix and was the reason why they’re playing catch up the rest of the quarters.
Yet, in the fourth quarter Gin Kings defense was in full display and the troops of coach Tim Cone able to tie the score at 101-all at the 12 00:12 mark.
Then Wright answered back with his game-winning jump shot to ice the game.
Ginebra called a timeout to decide either to tie or win the game by a booming three-pointer. It was the latter they have chosen and Justin Brownlee took the honor but his shot went in and out.
Brownlee also had his own version of triple-double as he led Ginebra with his 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists production.
LA Tenorio who was the spark plug of the Gin Kings run contributed 20 points with 5-of-11 from downtown
