The famous “extra rice” tandem of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters featuring Beau Belga and JR Quinahan was reported that is being discussed according to several news outlets.
It was said that before the 2021 PBA Draft, head coach Yeng Guiao and his NLEX Road Warriors were pursuing the services of Belga along with the now newly traded Vic Manuel in Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters.
The report said that RoS wanted Michael Miranda and a future draft pick yet NLEX turned down the offer. It took both parties five revisions however the deal wasn’t fruitful.
NLEX moved on and tried to snipe new players from the most recent rookie draft who will fill the slot left by JP Erram who is now with the TNT Tropang Giga. Yet, there is another manpower movement within the MVP umbrella where the Road Warriors sent their fourth-overall pick rights to their sister team in TNT.
During the draft proper, instead of a solid big-man NLEX opted for Calvin Oftana and David Murrell.
Seems like coach Yeng who also served as the team’s general manager already has a plan to solidify his front-court. A duo who will dominate the shaded area who already familiar with his system. That’s by chasing Belga and all he needs to do now is probably a more desirable package that will make both parties satisfied.
According to Spin.PH, last Thursday there’s a brand new counter-offer from NLEX camp where they will be sending Will McAloney and Kris Porter in exchange for big-boy Belga. It’s now ROS’s turn to review the said offer if they let go one of their valuable assets who still having a live contract with them until October.
With Belga and Quinahan play under the Elasto Painters during the Yeng Guiao-era, they won two titles. That’s during the 2012 PBA Governors’ Cup and the 2016 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
